Coronavirus & Holy Communion: A notice from the Priest-in-Charge and Churchwardens
Having given much thought to this issue (including studying Government and Church of England guidance), Richard, Helen and Jess have concluded that St Peter's Church should take the following precautionary measures during Holy Communion Services until further notice:
Firstly, we will share the Peace by greeting one another without physical contact (i.e. without shaking hands/hugging).
Secondly, during communion, the congregation will only be offered bread. We will not be offering wine. (This is known as offering communion ‘in one kind’). Only the priest will have both bread and wine.
Please be assured that Jesus is present with us during communion when we have just bread or wine as well as when we have both. So you will not be 'missing out' by only having bread.
We will keep you updated about the situation.
This is the current guidance from the Church of England: https://www.churchofengland.org/more/media-centre/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-churches
We are aware of the current medical situation, but we remain committed to worshipping together while we are able to.
We pray particularly for those directly affected.
